I’m Risë Hayes, and I’m running for Delegate to bring a fresh perspective to the legislature. Growing up in extreme poverty, including experiencing homelessness, shaped my commitment to building a Virginia where no child has to endure such hardships. Through hard work and determination, I was able to better my circumstances and receive my Bachelors of Science in Natural Science and Government. But I know that too many families are still struggling to make ends meet. That’s why I’m dedicated to helping our community. I will hold landlords accountable for safe and affordable housing, protect the rights of hardworking people, and ensure every student has access to quality education.I believe Virginians deserve more than just survival—they deserve the opportunity to truly thrive.

These rising expenses are putting a strain on hard-working people, forcing many to make difficult choices between essentials. It’s time we address this issue head-on, focusing on practical solutions that support working families, create affordable housing, and reduce unnecessary financial burdens.

Risë believes that every child deserves access to a high-quality education, regardless of their background or zip code. Quality education is the foundation of a strong future, and we must ensure that all students—no matter where they live—have the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to succeed. Risë will fight for increased funding for our schools, support for teachers, and policies that promote equity and inclusion in the classroom. By investing in early education, modernizing facilities, and expanding access to vocational training and higher education, we can empower the next generation to reach their full potential. Together, we can create an education system that truly works for every student and builds a stronger, more prosperous future for all.

Risë is deeply committed to protecting and expanding workers' rights. Every worker deserves fair wages, safe working conditions, and the right to organize without fear of retaliation. Risë will advocate for policies that ensure fair pay, paid family leave, better workplace protections, and a workplace where employees have a sense of security, especially for those in vulnerable and underrepresented industries. By strengthening labor laws and supporting collective bargaining, we can empower workers to secure the dignity and respect they deserve. A strong workforce is the backbone of our economy, and by standing up for workers, we can create a more just, equitable society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
